New Beginnings: Letters in Finance Kickoff
Good morning, dear reader,
I hope this letter finds you well. As we welcome the 1st of November with warm weather, we inch closer to the year's end. One thing I've wanted to accomplish this year is to start my blog, "Letters in Finance."
The journey hasn't been smooth. During my unemployment, I dedicated myself to building the blog using Python, but several obstacles kept me from writing. I was fearful—would anyone read my blog? Would people find my writing interesting in this day and age? Today, I've decided to face these fears and challenge myself to write to you every day about the fascinating world of finance.
A bit about me: I'm Rutendo, an investment analyst intern. I started a YouTube channel in 2021 but have been inactive for the past two years. My main reason for not creating content is my desire for quality. This same drive for quality applies to the letters I want to write to you. Earlier this year, I started learning Python, building my blog's backend using Django and the frontend with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. These two projects are currently separate, but I hope to integrate them soon so you can read these letters on the website I’ve built. While building the frontend, I drew inspiration from Substack, though I aim to create a unique brand.
I want to write and share video content on YouTube to build my professional voice, generate income streams, and grow as a person. These platforms teach accountability, especially for the commitments we make. My internet searches in finance range from basic to advanced topics, and my goal is to contribute helpful information to others like me, seeking diverse perspectives.
This month, my letters will cover more basic topics as we get to know each other. I hope to continue the conversation in the comments and, perhaps, in person someday. Please share your thoughts and let me know what you’d like to hear my perspective on. These letters will be educational, offering different viewpoints, but they won't constitute advice. They will also reflect my personal journey.
In the upcoming letters, I'll share my efforts to build additional income streams. This blog and YouTube will be among the topics I discuss. In 2019, I started trading with a focus on synthetic assets, particularly the Volatility 100 index on Deriv. I plan to explore this on weekends, as my weekdays are already busy with work. I'll also share what I'm reading, who I'm following, and why. This can be valuable for those pursuing a career in finance, as LinkedIn has been instrumental in my understanding of certain concepts.
There is much to write about, and I can't cover it all in this first letter. I hope you'll join me in sharing your perspectives too.
Key things to note:
- Letters in Finance website built by me
- Letters every weekday this November
- Video content coming on YouTube
- Volatility 100 trading journey
- What I'm currently reading
- Who I'm following
- A lot more
Today, I decided to start, despite feeling unprepared and scared. Hopefully, in the long run, we will build a better relationship to talk about finance in a fun and exciting way.
Your passionate writer,
With love, Rutendo Fortunate
